    Full Moon Rainring Night Shots

A sure sign that rain is on the way. I took these two nights ago.. The rain and snow hasn't stopped since.

You got the exposure, color, stars and sunset right in the first image.

All the others pale in comparison.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    #1 is Outstanding !!!

What is the reddish light behind the trees ? perhaps reflections of city lights?

#2,3 are also very nice, but the moon ring is not really visible

    #4 looks more like sunrise/sunset

They are all gorgeous but all absent any clear foreground subject. The technique is very very nice, but put a sexy zombie in the foreground plox.

I think you did a good job on the sky portion but I also think it is missing something by not including more of the foreground. For me adding more foreground would make it a more complete picture instead of having just a nice shot of the sky, Jeff

I really like #1. I have never noticed a ring like that around the moon. I saw the time you took it was 2:58 AM, maybe that's why I never saw one.

I like #s 1 & 4. Agree with others that #1 could use some sort of foreground abject of interest. #4 is just a nice, simple composition. There is a bit of bright streaks in the lower-right that I would clone out though.

I like 1 and 2 the most. I like seeing the whole moon in the shot.

I'm not familiar with how you shot this but why is 400 ISO necessary? I would imagine using 100IS to get the lowest noise.

Yeah the quality of the light texture in all of them is really good, and I mostly retract my comment about foreground subject.

Re: Full Moon Rainring Night Shots

    Thanks for the replys everyone,
Armondo, Yes, the orange in the bottom left is the closest city to my house, 15 miles away, three thousand feet below me.

daq7, In pic#1 there is no crop.# 2,3,4 there is a crop. I will post those up with the foreground later. I'm curios to hear opinions on if i should have left the foreground in or not. I was 50/50 on it but decided to crop them. I'll keep my eye open for that sexy zombie..you never know what you will find up here in the sticks.

poker, I had to bump up the iso to 400 to get a exposure that would not exceed over a minute or so, but still capture the detail I wanted in that time. Any longer and the stars would have blurred from the rotation of the earth, and the moon. With high iso I usually always shoot with the Long exp. noise reduction turned on and this cleans up any noise up to 800 iso.

Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate the critiques and comments..that's the best way to learn.

    Darin

Grandpaw, i will post the uncropped up tonight. Thanks for the critique.

gmaschreiber, I shoot pictures 24-7...its a sickining addiction, but you never know what out there until you go look for it. I always go out shooting on every full moon, like clockwork. Leave at 8pm get home whenever. The elevation where I am at helps in seeing the rain rings. The air is very clean here..above all the smog I guess.

Re: Full Moon Rainring Night Shots

    #1 and 4 are excellent.

The moon behind the tree and halfway cut off in the 2nd and 3rd jumble the ambience of the image for me.

Excellent job showing off the gradual tones of the skies. We don't see skies like that in Kansas. Keep em comin!
