    Re: fountain

This is a nice picture. I like the frozen motion of the water and I like the moody sky. If I had my way, I think I'd rather see the fountain from the opposite direction. The building that is almost perfectly obscured by the fountain is pretty awkward IMO.
Still, a very well-composed, nicely executed shot.

thanks McMadCow...i was sweating when i saw your nick critique'd this one , youre a tuff cookie to break, must be all that naked raygun you listen to . this was pretty much the only angle you could get, the other side would be trees , the river and a apartments (see pic below) , thought it would make more sense to have an even back drop. thanks again

    Dear Todd,

Like MMC said, the building is a slight annoyance. Since you can't take a shot from the other direction, I might suggest taking it from a much lower angle, so as to hide the building. The clouds add a nice mood to the picture as well. A good photo, but needs work.

    Re: fountain

    Hi SB,

I guess I'll be the contrarian. I LIKE the building in the bg. And, I like the superimposed symetry between the fountain and the building. For me, this elevates your image above the typical fountain shot. Nice sky too.... Great composition brother.

Just wonder what it would look like with a tripod and and a long exposure.

    Cheers,

    Dear Todd,

Yes you could put on a 8x ND filter, and lower the ISO to 50 or so, and you might get something interesting. However, more interesting effects could be acheived at night. I assume they light up the fountain? The lights would add to the mood of the fountain, and being nighttime, the exposures would be longer, giving more of the "cotton candy" effect. I think it would be much more pleasing. And that would solve the problem of the building too. I guess that solves all your problems about this one . Next please!!! ;)

yes that shot works. I like the background building, the sky, even the centering works. Awesome symmetry and balance.

The lighting on the building is great, the frozen motion of the water, the vivid trees everything else comes together to form an awesome shot, definately a keeper.

    BTW: Where is that?

    Re: fountain

I think the ideal angle for this would be to have a higher viewpoint, and view down so you can see the building and the fountain. But with that you had, I like it. Very neat vantage point and I think it works as is.

    Nice shot,

    Jared

    Re: fountain

I really like the way the water pulls the clouds down into the building and then through the fountain into the foreground and the fountain base. You managed to capture almost perfect symmetry.

There are only two improvements I can suggest:
    1. You drop the tower block to the right of the building
    2. Crop the left part a bit to get better symmetry in the fountain base.

I think this photo has that quirkiness that the appeals to me (British Humour).
