First of all, welcome to the forums! I think you are off to a good start. Some will probably comment about the flower going off frame, but it doesn't bother me, Jeff

Nice the way the slight angle give this image some depth.

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

    Re: Flowers..

Not bad for a first try....
    Watch your DOF.
It appears your focus was on the center of the white flower.
With a wide aperture the petals coming towards you are out of focus.
remember the rule. 1/3 in front, 2/3 behind.
Use that rule to try and get the whole subject in focus.
    Look through a glass eye.
    Give it a few tries.
Nothing goes right in its time.

lovely subject matter and I like your composition. First try? Very good! Improve your focusing skills (as I am attempting) and you will have some great photos. Looking forward to another from you.......Welcome!

    Thanx...

Sorry but I have absolutely no Idea what 1/3 in front and 2/3 behind means .. Im assuming DOF means Direct-On Focus.. When I say im new I really mean it lol :mad2: .. Im picking up some Bryan Peterson material tomorrow to better understand some things.

    Re: Flowers..

Hello mEasy27 - Welcome to PR. Don't worry, we'll take it easy.

Your photo has a lot of nice things in it. I like the bottom red roses (are they roses?) and their deep red color. The upper flower is OK too but does seem a little out of place compared to the roses,.. but what do I know about flowers?! I would have tried to avoid clipping off the top of that white flower.

Photo technically, the shot is not as sharp as it might be. This isn't necessarily bad w/ flowers, but let's assume that it was another subject and you wanted it razor sharp. I think you might want to use a faster shutter speed than 1/60th of a second (as I can see from your EXIF data). DOF is depth of field, which is related to the aperture of your lens. The higher the number (e.g. f 8 vs. f 5.6) the more of the image that's in focus. The area you focused on with your lens is the 'center' of the focus zone, but the zone isn't really linear meaning more behind the focal point is in focus than in front, hence Snoid's 1/3 - 2/3 advice.

    Anyway, it'll come. Nice post.

Don't worry about being a newbie - I have over 1200 posts -- cause I didn't know anything either! This is a good place to learn with a lot of helpful and knowledgeable people. Don't forget to critique others - you'll learn a lot yourself.
