Fire Valley - What do you think?

Another shot from the Cedar Breaks. 11,000 feet =D

It's got some things I like, but I can't get that "medium format" feel I want out of it.

Hi, i probably dont have much of a right to give any criticism since im kinda new at this photography game, but it seems to me that a great shot with lots of depth and color is spoiled buy the fact that you merged the rock spire at the top of the picture with your top boarder, it would have perhaps been better to pan up and show a little sky.

    Cedar Breaks Utah.

Also mtb, I get what you are saying, but there was no "sky" to pan up to, What you are seeing is probably 1000 feeet below me, to get the sky I might have to pan up another whole length of the image, or more =D I zoomed into that spot to show the detail, but the valley and the rock formation just kept going and going...

Wow, look at the light bounce around that valley. Beautiful place and a beautiful shot. It seems the sun is quite high. There could be an even more dramatic shot here at another time of the day with shadows giving more depth.

I think that the depth and colour contrast is good. Seems to be an interresting place.

    Sean,
I think this is ok. However, I agree with three comments made from three posts here including your. First, you say you would have liked to achieve that medium format feel. I take it you mean capturing the incredible detail here that is there in these rock formations. I agree that a shot like this could use some intense detail capture, but you have just enough here to make this work.
I agree with Mtb about a different point of view here as the top of the frame seems to be cutting off the shot. maybe getting it from a lower vantage point or a wider angle .
Also agree with Chunk that this scene could be alot more at a different time of day, with a setting or rising sun
I like this shot, actually, i like this scene more than the shot itself and feel there is potential here for much more than was achieved.
