    Fire Red

Rather simple subject -- especially when thrown in with the works of art and exotic places that pop up around here! -- but it's close by, and forces a focus on the basic technical aspects.............so, what do you think?

I would like to see a tighter crop and not have the white and black thing in the frame, Jeff

    Paula,

I agree wih Jeff, a tighter crop and elimination of the white & black thing would help. I like your use of DOF to eliminate or minimize the background, without resorting to cloning etc.

    Re: Fire Red

Hey. i've taken many a photograph of these fire hydrants. I agree with Jeff about not having that other thing there beside the subject. A tighter crop might be nice, but i think more than that we need a more interesting looking fire hydrant. This one is purely painted red with no texture, chips, or imperfections that we could fascinate ourselves with.

I didn't like that whatever it is thing either. The color and the DOF was the best thing about it for me.

    Thanks for your comments!

My first thought was to go vertical and include all of the whatever but I think with those soft bg colors, I'd actually like to see a wider shot with the hydrant's color standing out in a dull brown world.

    Re: Fire Red

Thanks, Frog. I did barely crop a little off the sides to eliminate a piece of a window and an unruly mailbox. My thoughts were yours -- that bright red against the soft browns which was intensified by shooting in the golden hour -- or almost sunset.
