A few from a beginner

Any advice and critiques welcome. These were taken with a low end digital, any ideas on how to take better pictures? Better camera will come soon, so other than that

Very nice effort. Thanks for posting. As I'm sure your aware the first image is somewhat washed out. I don't know what equipment you are using, with what type of controls, therefore I can't suggest what changes you might need to make in settings. Your overall compostion is good. I like the falls shot you did a better with the exposure on this image and your framing is good. The sunset is beautiful I like how you have used the forground branches to add perspective and framing to shot. It is nice to see another Kentuckian posting here on PR. Keep it up and I hope to see a lot more of your images.

Thanks for the response. Im using a canon powershot s110 right now. Im trying to get more serious with my photography so the 2.1mp is killing me But im still having fun. The only other cameras I have are an old elph APS and a prehistoric Olympus iS-1 which I have never even used (worth using?). Ive been going over the net the last few days reading reviews, trying to decide what kind of camera to get. Since your from KY, the first 2 pics are obvious. The last one was just a sunrise at Laurel lake. I like to practice with these places because they have well maintained 'scenic overlooks' for the tourists.

Hi Rusty,

I agree with the above comments. The first one is washed out. The waterfalls shot is much better. I like the composition. It has more contrast, and shows you can do a good job. I also like the last one. Again, the composition is good - I like the way you framed the sun and the reflection. Nice capture.

Thanks for posting the photos here - and keep up the good work. Keep posting your photos for advice on how to improve. Also, if you want advice on a camera, go to the Digital Cameras forum, post some important info including what your budget is, what you're going to use the camera for, etc. Also, check the reviews here on any cameras you wish to consider.

Thanks for the replies. The first pic is washed out because of the sun I think. I tried to cap my hand over the lens and it helped some, but not enough. Here is another sunrise pic from the same day, it came out ok but just like the others, the cameras limitations really are apparant. Another newbie mistake Ive realized since browsing this site, is that I only took 1 snapshot of each scene. I could easily have taken 10 and came out with much better results. Live and learn.

RB,It looks like you have a good eye for composition and seeing a good photo . I too like the 2nd and 3rd pics best but even though the first is washed out, it still ok to me as it gives it a very misty mytserious feel. I started out with a 2 mp digital p&s also and realize the limitations you working with. I actually stepped up into film with a Canon 35 mm slr setup and a film scanner. keep it up . .I know we will be seeing lots og good stuff from you

We do indeed live in a beautiful state for photography. I live about 3 hours north of you, but have made numerous trips to the falls and to the groge. Lake Cumberland also provided some very nice photo ops for me. I have a daughter that is in your neck of woods attending college at Alice Lloyd. When we are down there we often run over to Hazard to take her out to dinner. Keep up the good work and focus more on the compostion and the results than on what equipment you are using.
