    Ducks or not?

The sky was on fire when I went to work yesterday. I just had to stop and take some shots of the sky, the Washington Monument and the Reflecting pool.

Miss M thinks the ducks in the first photo are distracting, I think they add interest and perspective.

I prefer the cropped version (w/o the ducks). What lovely colors! Nice capture.

Two beautiful shots! I love the colors. I personally do not fine the ducks distracting at all, I like them. Since they are silhouetted there is no competition. I have a couple of shots of the Mounument, but not quite as pretty.

I like the photo with the ducks way better. They almost act as a guide that lead your eyes towards the monument. Awesome work.

For once someone in DC has their ducks in a row. Keep 'em.
    Beautiful shot.

great scene - good decision to stop .... if these are the only options : definitely the one without the ducks .... would love to vote for option three: no ducks in the foreground ... keeping the other couple - the "double headed" one is indeed a little distracting ... keeps too much attention

    .... what kind of job do you have which enables you to stop on the way ..... I m always late (-;

I work about a 1/4 mile from the spot I took these photos and always give myself plenty of time for breakfast.

Here is a view from the other direction.

    Re: Ducks or not?

I prefer the one without the ducks. I find them distracting and feel the focal point should remain on the fiery sky. I saw a sky like this recently and was disappointed that I was without camera. Absolutely Awesome !

    Re: Ducks or not?

Hello, I feel the ducks to be a distraction from the sky, clouds and awesome color, not to mention the wonderful color reflecting in the pool... But also like the crop better in the one with the ducks, because it gradually goes dark on the bottom of the photo.

    Good Capture!

    Re: Ducks or not?

I like the colour, contrast and perspective of the photo with the ducks better than the one without, but I think that photo would be better without the ducks. I know... that wasn't one of the choices. Oh well.

    Re: Ducks or not?

I'm with Bill on this. I like the shot With the Ducks as I like the composition and richness more. . . .but would just clone the ducks out of that shot. however, I do not feel so strongly about removing the ducks. . .it is still a great scene with them in there. Well, you got the audiences vote. . .would you like to use your lifeline now? ;) Good work

I will have to go with the second shot. Very nice color and composition... Maybe a tad dark? But that can be my screen!

The dusck shot is very nice also. Unfortunately, the two FG ducks are merging, which is distracting.

    Just my 2 cents worth!

    Cheers,

    Steph.

I would leave them in. It gives it an added interest. It always seems so amazing that little wild things just float around or fly around in that gorgeous scenery like it's normal. lol keep em.

I think the sky in the duck shot is better, but they're both awesome.

Ducks, but lost the two in the foreground and keep the two middle distance.
I see you moved between the shots too, I prefer the framing of the second - but it could do with ducks

Great sky, well exposed, captured the colours & reflections beautifully.

    Hello MB1,

While the sky certainly is very eye pleasing I much much (did I mentioned much?) prefer the first picture with the ducks. To me, the framing of the first one (the framing by itself, not considering the ducks presence) is significantly more interesting. As for the ducks, they just make the scene fuller and their position draw me into the picture.

    regards

    Seb
