D70 Macro

I photographed this Palamedes Swallowtail today with a D70 and Tamron 90mm maco lens f/8 1/250. Tell me what you think and how you would improve it.

It would be tough to improve on the basic image. Nice and sharp and good detail. If your goal was to document this species than you certainly achieved that. As you pointed out earlier however there is nothing that sets this particular image apart or make it unique as a photograph. I know nothing about butterflies however and the fact that you were abe to get this image at all may be what makes it unique. If so great job.

You're right - sometimes it's a struggle to get a clear, sharp photo and sometimes it's a delight to get one. I like this shot, but it is rather documentary. I'll post another that's not so "perfect" and I'd like to read what you think.
