    Coconuts Ice Cream

Here's on I had to make a couple of trips to get what I wanted. The lights at the top were a pain. I wound up using a graduate filter and some PS work.

You succeded! I love the warm nostalgia feeling this has.Could this be a 24mm capture? wide lense? White balance / Exposure appears spot on, Your PP work ?.The color, tonal range looks balanced IMHO.
Good eye on framing the left corner.Excellent detail right down to the shadows from the bench.Somehow the perspective gives it a interesting edge.

    Nice work G'

Greg, I think you are on to a really good series here, this with Psycho Sisters makes
a good beginning. I like how this looks "unreal", it sort of looks like a movie set. There's
a certain quality to it that is hard to pinpoint. It looks yummy to me, like banana cream pie.

Very good Greg and I like how yellow monopolises; even the faded line on the road. It has a nice atmosphere too but I would like to see more of the side of the building. Either that or a full frontal if you get my drift.

    Greg,

What a terrific capture. You certainly deserve some recognition for this shot. I think we all know how incredibly difficult those lights can be. I concur, the shadows and color texture are precisely fit. Nicely done, indeed.

    Re: Coconuts Ice Cream

Yes, nice catch. Good PS work too - the lights look spectacular. I'm not sure about all that street in there but I suspect that you were trying to get the 'main street' feel. I just wish there was more distinction in the street. There's blank space at the right side but not the left. That bothers me a little.. perhaps it would be better if you closed up the right side gap somewhat.. Also, I would sharpen it just a little more (Not too much). Good catch. GB

    Re: Coconuts Ice Cream

One tiny nitpick, Greg. Above the building at the extreme right on the roof, above the Coconuts sign, there's something there that distracts me a little. I'm not sure what it is, but cloning it out would be good.

    Re: Coconuts Ice Cream

Rick, Thanks I am glad you like it.

NJ, Yes it looks like this might be a series, Love you.

    Tyson, Thanks buddy.

Tom, The left side of the building is blown out by a spot light and I really couldn't make that angle work, but I see what you mean and I did try. I cloned out one flood.

CF, Thanks the whole world changes at night and I love the atmosphere and getting out in it. I wish you were on the east coast. If you are ever in the Atlanta area look me up and we will go see what we can find to take pictures of. There is a localy famous resturant near me that is a biggy for photogs, but I have never seen a night picture of it. It's shaped like a chicken. The joke is that the pilots coming into Atlanta knows when to lower there gear when they see it. Sounds like a night shoot to me.
    http://roadsidegeorgia.com/site/bigchicken.html

GB, I shot the lights high to try and give the grad filter as much room to work as it could. As I was in PPing I really started to like the street as it is. I thought the yellow lines in the street worked with the building. I also cropped it for 8x10 size so when it goes to print it will come out like I want it. Thanks

John, That's a flag wrapped around a pole. I guess it's obvious to me because I was there. But now that you mention it maybe it needs to go? It was blowing all over the place the first time I went.

    Thanks everyone,
    Greg

    Greg,

    Wonderful lighting and well captured.

I think the thing on the top right of the building needs to be removed, looks like a barbers pole, and I would eve consider getting rid of the tressle table on the far right.

Greg, I like this one alot. The lighting was right, your exposure very good, and the subject strong. I agree with Toms comments on the framing points, but a retake is certainly not neccessary as you have a terrific picture here.
    Great work.

This is a super shot. The lighting is excellent and I especially like the way the spots illuminate the sign.

Thanks Gary, I had to get back and as high as I could without over doing it to keep the flood lights from leaving hot spots on the sign. Mike thanks to you as well. The owner was closing up as I was shooting and I now wish I had gotten him to turn on the in inside lights on and maybe had him pose inside. I send him a copy of the picture and he was very pleased with the outcome.

Very nicely captured Greg, you did a very nice job controlling the light here. I like this one.
Funny you should say that you wish the lights were on. The first time I saw this I envisioned it with the store open and a line of people going in. Of course there would be some motion blur, people milling about eating ice cream would add life to the photo.

Greg, this is a great shot. The lighting, the colors it all comes together very well here. It looks like a postcard. I like your idea of having the owner inside to give it a little more life. Still a great shot though. The name alone is enough to make you pause and take a second look.

Definately not - lights inside would spoil this for me, because you'd loose the reflections in the window, and the small amount of detail coming through from inside. For me this is perfect - don't mess with it.

EOS, MonkeyWrench, Rodger. I guess I will stick with this copy for now. I did dress it up some. There were some small flaws not visable on a web size image. A handicap sign in the shadows on the right. I also ran it through neat image, The sky had some grain to it. Thanks I am glad you all liked it. Did you all here that I am the new Olympus 4/3 thread mod? I'm pumped......

    Coconuts Ice Cream Final edit

Thanks for all of your help everybody, I have removed the rooftop AC unit and the flag pole. I also run it through neat image and here is the final product. I also removed a couple of other small items not noticable on a web sized image.
