Well, first off it is not very sharp at all and that in and of itself seems to kill this for me. If it were sharp, i still can't say that i feel the composition is too good. I'm wondering why you chopped so much of the tower off. Placing it off to the side seems to have been a good idea, but it just appears to be chopped down too much.
I was trying to go for a softish painting like look but I guess not quite there. The clouds gave me the idea since they already seemed soft. Thanks for the feedback. Tried again and a different take on it.
OH!!! Now I see why you cropped the top like that, it was all you could see of it! Aha! Well that makes much more sense. I like your third one best. It gives me more interesting things to look at besides steeple and clouds. I also like the du-tone conversion. I see what you mean about the soft clouds and a painterly look but I don't think you are quite hitting it with this approach. There is a technique you can use with Photoshop or similar that gives you that soft look but let's you keep your focus, it's called the Orton Effect. Here's a link:Orton Effect How To
agtaylor, I too see why you approached the comp like you did. I agree that painting effect is not quite hitting the mark maybe because there is not enough subject there to render context to the effect? not sure why. . .
That last image looking through the window is great. That is the keeper. Well done. I would not change a thing. . .except perhaps see how it looked in color. the soft muted colors from the other two look appealing and maybe the colors would add even more to the window shot. Just a s thought, but i love the shot as it is.
Good stuff here!
Something else that you may consider is to move to another location to see if you can get another angle. You may be surprised as to what you see when you switch locations.
CL- I thought there might be a way to do that in photoshop but wasnt sure. Unfortunately I dont have photoshop yet but thanks for the link. I imgaine I will come back to it.
Gahspidy-For some reason I deleted or never took a color version with the window panes it, oops. Still have the color version through the window though. I always thought the third one probably the best shot but wanted to see if I had gotten the painting effect I was trying for.
Jorger-Good call. The window pane was actually a different spot than the first one.
Heres a full view from where the first one was taken and a color one through the window. Not necessarily looking for critique on these but thought I would include them since it was mentioned.
I really appreciate the ongoing feedback and help. Thanks everyone.
