    Car show

I don't recall posting these yet- they're from last month. We have a car show once a year up here. I missed it last year but this year I had a reason to go, so I burned off a couple rolls. These were shot on Fuji Super HQ 100 print film. I thought this film was junk the last time I shot it; the only reason I used it here was to get rid of it (I was selling our service of putting people's cars on t-shirts and I was using the shop's digi for the customer stuff). But the results were way better than I expected.
I tried some different perspectives than I normally would have- these two were the most unusual (for me). Any comments/suggestions? Thanks all!

Love the '59. I've got a shot around here I took of a pink one from almost the same angle. It really gives a feel for just how long that car is.

As for the Fuji HQ100, I've always gotten pretty good results from it. True color, and good flexibility with natural light or flash. Different strokes and all that, eh?

You've certainly caught the character of these cars. Your camera angles have added a lot of interest and isolated some of their defining details. I think the film worked well for this.

    Re: Car show

Hey thanks guys. I was beginning to think my post was going to get lost in the shuffle. I'm so glad you like my attempts at adding interest to these already stunning beauties. The Caddy was just so cool, with those famously huge fins, I knew I had to get a shot of just the fin. I took another one from a very low viewpoint with the fin jutting into the sky but I don't think it worked as well.
As for the film. I bought 5 rolls of it at Wal-Mart, since I was so amazed they would actually carry some 100 speed print film. And no one else in town has it. And for about a buck a roll, too. The previous three rolls were used on an overcast day on some cormorants I was shooting for a realtor who wanted a logo pic to match the name of the business. The colors turned to mud with no resemblance to the actual scene and all definition was lost. A decidedly dark red cast was evident when we analyzed it at the shop after scanning the negs. We ended up having to turn it to grayscale and then posterizing to get anything useable. These car pics were scanned off Rite-Aid prints at home. But the red cars I shot lost all detail in the red areas. I just think this film needs some serious improvements.
On a final note, the local paper ran some really lame pics of the show, including no pics of the cars, and then when I sent in a few (including these two) they didn't even bother to respond. My dad said they were some of the classiest pics he'd seen in a while- this coming from a true gearhead. Diff'rent strokes indeed! Thanks again!!!

    Re: Car show

I like them, especially the caddy. I find shooting cars to be a bit difficult. At least to get anything somewhat creative/interesting. (See the Fire Trucks gallery on my web page and you'll see examples of how NOT to do it. hehehe.) You've pulled it off quite nicely here.
