    Can you find the heart?

I photographed this mockingbird today with a D70 and 300mm lens with a 1.4 teleconverter. It is cropped a little and adjusted in PS. What do you think? Can you find the "heart?"

The colors look a bit washed out and there doesn’t appear to be very much contrast (It looks like you were shooting on an overcast day which frequently can cause this problem). Also on the CRT that I am looking at right now there appears to be some CA by the tip of the tail-feathers (maybe caused by the TC?). Generally the picture looks a bit soft (maybe again because of the TC?) but I can just barely make out some of his whiskers so maybe the full sized image is better. I would like it better if there weren’t as many leaves in front of him but I think it is a good effort. Maybe you can boost the color and contrast a bit in PS to get a stronger image.

I see it! It's a nice shot. Is the heart an OOF leaf?

That lil' heart is a neat coincidence. This is what I see when I think of a bird picture. I am really kinda pigeonholed by the drawbacks of my current camera. I actually made a decision to not try and shoot past my equipments abilities, but I break that rule all the time.

I think you're right about its being too washed out. Is this better? You're right about the chromatic abberation, too. If I go back to the original and blow it up to 200% the magenta fringing is pretty clear. I had been finding CA with the TC and a 75-300mm, but I hadn't seen it with the 300mm f/4 yet. I don't think the softness is related to the TC, but to handholding and AF set to continuous. Thanks for the comments.

Re: Your monitor question, I have a NEC monitor calibrated using Adobe gamma profiles, but not the "spider." Things look quite a bit different on my IBM Thinkpad display.

Nice shot. I like the pose. The added colour and contrast gives it more life. I agree that the leaves make the overall composition a little busy but asking for a good pose at the right distance with the right lighting and the perfect background....well.... you get the drift.

LL, Good Composition, I see the heart, Very cute, and almost placed in the correct spot!

P.S. good DOF i like the OOF leaves that you captured with your AF, I'm sorry about the CA maybe caused by the TC -but with the contrast you added in PS it looks great!

Oh, thanks for posting it on PR, Ok
