Wombats? I couldn't find any wombats...

... so I shot some more Grasstrack Speedway instead. I can't get enough of it. This was an even bumpier and grassier (???) track than the last one.

It's stonkingly good fun and it's hard to know what to shoot next - there's so much going on - colour, grass, mud etc... You would love it.

I'm surprised you don't get something similar in the US, but I guess it may well be a uniquely European sport - the Dutch in particular like it.

I tried to shoot some 'high key' stuff as well this time - aiming into the sun and opening up by 2 stops or so (as in the last pic) to expose for the shadow areas. I hope this has the desired effect of emphasising the dust storm these bikes kick up. I've posted another similar pic (no 2) in the sports section of the forum: Back to the Grasstrack...

    It works..
The only thing that bothers me about your "high key" image is the branch in the left corner.
It sure looks funny the way the guy in the side car leans over, I know the purpose of. It certainly makes for more interesting photographs!

I agree about the branch... but, hey presto... one lap earlier... no branch! However, less dust... hmmm...

Why am I not seeing a branch? Can someone please point it out to me? It's driving me nuts.

And what happened to the sidecar one lap later?
Drink Coffee. Do stupid things faster with more energy.

    Kelly... sorry for any confusion!!!!!!!!

The branch can be seen here: Back to the Grasstrack... - as I'd also posted some shots in the sports forum.

The additional pic I posted here was from the previous lap when the riders came round the same bend in slightly different positions - so the offending branch didn't appear. Hmmm. I hope that makes some kind of sense.

Maybe there was in fact a wombat up on that branch? Do wombats climb trees?

NOT! guess it's a guy thing. These are great however, I love the look of them, especially the first one with the grass flying and the last photo on your link. The blue and yellow are vibrant and the dirst spitting out at the camera and the composition. good thing there are guys like you taking these shots, you couldn't pay me enough to be around all that dust. heh too girly I guess.

Kit... you just have to stand in the right place and watch the dust cloud float past you at a safe distance! And there are plenty of girls/ladies/women watching too.. they seem to like the va va vroooom of it all!

I love the diagonals in the first and the fourth. What weird bikes, never seen anything like that before...

How to tell the most experienced shooter in a group? They have the least amount of toys on them.

    Not that I know of
They burrow, are so thick skinned (or plain thick) they run through electric fences, can bite your hand down the the bone, and sleep a lot.
But I've not heard of them having arboreal tendencies.
