    My first Night shot

It was a huge moon and i have never tried to take a night shot, so i tried and here is the out come, it was realy realy windy and there were clouds, thats why the moon is a big blotch of light

    Dear Young Shooter,

A good effort, but I cannot help but be distracted by the blackness of the left hand side of the photo. Perhpas if you croped it. Another thing to try is getting more detail of the tree, with the moon in the branches. Maybe . Keep up the good work!

I'm also distracted by the dark bottom left, but I really like the tree branch detail

    Hey Young Shooter,

I must agree with what was already said but I think that your picture is very very moody which is a huge plus. Your basic idea was good. One thing that I notice here is the vignetting plus a slight light fade off in the corners. Have you used one (or more) filters on that one??? It can only make the left side of the picture darker.

I think Seb hit the nail on the head with his description that the photo is moody. I like the mood, and I don't mind the "big blotch of light". I think the heavy black darkness on the left balances the photo as I keep looking from one to the other. It is quite eerie. Good shot.

    Re: My first Night shot

I quite like this pic, and have no problem with the dark on the left hand side, in fact i'm going against most but i'd prefer the shot without the moon...........i think it would be very effective against a blank grey sky, as i feel the branches get lost. I'm blinded by the whiteness of the moon. i know you need the light of the moon for it to work, but perhaps aan angle to exclude the moon would be possible.................

...nice pic all the same, and i love the branches, you can see the movement with the wind, very dream like.

    cheers

    Re: My first Night shot

I also agree with most, and with Anew in particular. The wind helped blur the branches whcih gives this moody feeling that Seb mentioned. But the Moon is a huge distraction. The fact that it is elipitic is also a problem. If you used a very long shutter speed (minute), the Moon may have moved in the meanwhile....

If you used a short shutter speed, you either have lens distortion, camera shake, or your image editing software played a trick on you by not respecting the size ratio.

    Cheers,

    Steph.

Thanks alot guys, i didnt use filters seb, and uuummm the moon turned out blurrry because it was realy windy and the clouds like blocked it out, i used a half a min shutter speed and i had it on a tri-pod so it wasnt moving, thanks alot for the comments, yes it is quite moody, here is a picture i took without the moon, and it was at night also

Wow, that was quite a foggy night! It almost looks like a scene from Sleepy Hollow!
I think that you have a natural ease with night shooting. Keep them coming.

I have one question though, which camera/lense (well mostly which lense) was used for these?

Well the vignetting in your first night shot surprise me but I have never used that lense so I cannot judge about it.

    Re: My first Night shot

this second shot is great, i love the way you want to see beyond the front trees, and the mood is spot on. everything works very well here, and there is great detail in the trees, i much prefer it without the moon.

    congratulations on a great photo...

    cheers

    Re: My first Night shot

I would try to avoid shooting the moon because its just too bright
Unless the moon is also illuminating something, it will usually just whiting out and all you get is a big blob as we see here.
