    Blues In The Air

Another live shot from last night.

Overall impressions? And better with the mic/stand or without? I'm thinking that the stand creates an interesting shape.

Purposely refraining from naming names for a variety of reasons. But he's playing Sidney Bechet's horn.

This is GREAT! I think the mic/stand is personal preference. It does give it a bit of "character." OTOH - I think the image would be more striking without it. Really good work.

Thanks, Liz. I'm so torn on that stand. On one hand, it might be a distraction. On the other, I agree that it does seem to add a little character. (I tried removing the stand and the image is a bit more pedestrian without it.)

    Can't decide...

Hmmmm.....I just returned for another look......the stand is beginning to attract me this time around. You may be right about the "pedestrian" look. It will be interesting to see what others think. Either way, it's an excellent shot.

He is really enjoying hitting the notes.
The mic is fine but it just seems a little too close to the instrument, as if it was supporting it.
I like the picture very much.

    Thanks, Tom.

I was actually considering trying to move it down a tad. What do you think?

moving the mic (mike) ? then I'll probably move it more towards the left

A really great image of the musician

    Thanks guys.

I'll post versions with the mic moved and with the mic gone. Need to send this dude something soon, so I want to come up with a definitive version.

Can you show him both - and put the ball (mic) in his court? Or not.

BTW - I agree about moving the mic/stand a bit further away if you keep it.

Thumbs up Re: Blues In The Air

I removed the mic and stand to see what it would look like and I definitely think that is the way to go after seeing it removed, Jeff

I think this is an outstanding picture.

    Thanks all.

So here's a version with no mic, slightly reduced redness (and diminished shadow) on his face...

I vote no mic! Much cleaner, less distracting

    PERFECT!!!!!!! I love this shot.

I don't like to admit this - but that tie definitely plays a role in this shot......and I hardly noticed it when the mic was there - guess I was too focused on the mic.

Did I say how much I love this image?

What a stunning shot, Dray! The joy on the man's face is priceless. A totally beautiful moment captured.

Thanks arne. He's quite a showman... and, therefore, very easy to photograph.

LOVE this. I, too, vote for no mic stand. This was taken during an actual performance? Amazing capture.

Yup - and pretty memorable one!

I agree that it's better with no mic/stand.
