    Black Door

I have two versions of this and like them both for different reasons. I wonder if anyone prefers one over the other.
    What do you think?
    Thanks

    Re: Black Door

I vote for the first one. I like it better with more wall showing. I think the second one is too tight of crop. Having more wall showing gives you an idea of where it's at, without it, it would be like getting a tight crop of the door handle and not having the door included in the shot to give you some perspective, Jeff

    Re: Black Door

#2. I like the textures of the rock wall and the addition of the white flowers adds more to it. But the first one has merits to. Why the first crop? Does the trimmed ends on the plant bother you? You might could PS them and make them look broken instead of fresh cut. But I like it as is.

    Re: Black Door

I like the first one the best. The composition is a little bit more appealing to the eye.

I also like the second one though, even though it seems a little too cropped, because the height of the flower makes the door appear smaller, adding a fairy like charm to the situation.

    Re: Black Door

I like the 1st for the wall textures Gary but might like to lose some off the right. The top and bottom seem to be squeezed..did you have some conflicting stuff up above?
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!

I like the crop of the first one and the detail of the second one, especially in the door.
    Overall, I prefer the first.

    Re: Black Door

I like the first one best Gary.

The wall on the right hsa such vibrant colors and adds so much to the photo.
The little plants on the right are stepped (low to high) just right. Everything
leads the eye to the door. The crop takes too much away.

Both are good but I sure like the first better.

    Re: Black Door

You have captured some very nice texture in the shot. If I had to vote, I'd vote for the first shot. It lends itself to the more conventional rule of thirds, I think the green plants/weeds add that little extra to the shot.

I think comparing these shots is a bit like comparing a BMW to a Mercedes. They are both good shots.

    Re: Black Door

I love the first one with the broader crop. For me it tells a story and/or leaves me wondering what is on the other side. I love that you can peek in on the top. It looks like a door to a secret garden.
    It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

    Re: Black Door

Gary - I like the first one better, places it very well. I would have even left more space around it, esp above, to amplify the settings, but this is good. Try bumping up the saturation. Where's the trolls? Seems like a fantasy setting.

    Re: Black Door

Thanks alot everyone for making this real easy I prefer the 1st one myself and am so glad that it is the hands down choice of the two.

I agree that the extra space as well as the added elements like the white flowers and the other greens, the color and texture on the wall add up to a more interesting image than the other.

About the tight crop above the door. . .the wall is only as high as where I ended it on the frame. Above that is a not so pleasing looking fence and yard.

btw,Greg, I think you meant #1 as you mentioned the added bonus of the white flowers.
Thanks all for the time and help.

Ha, looks as if I am the lone bone on this, I prefer the 2Nd pic best. I like the "massivness" of the door. It gives the pic more "strength" If that makes any sense to you. Guess it's time for me to get my eyes checked as everyone likes The first and sees things in it that I don't.

Gee, thanks for throwing the Monkey Wrench into this. . .:mad2: just kidding.
Thats exactly why I was torn between the two. I like the detail and close up scale of the door in the 2nd shot. I really like both because the subject is so cool, but I think for me the 1st wins out by a hair because of all the extra little goodies included.
    thanks.

I really love the first one, it reminds me of one of my favorite books from childhood, The Secret Garden.
