    Benches, NYC style

Running across these old styled benches hidden betwen very modern buildings was a pure coincidence and the lighting was there so it called for a shot.

    Hi Seb,

And a very nice shot it is! I like how the bottom half (bench, walkway, trashcan) is "old", and the top half is modern. Good exposure too. I often get tripped up with sun spots and shade. Just curious though, did you take a landscape version?

This is great and unusual also. The light on the benches lifts it beautifully in an otherwise grey (but lovely)setting.. I see the slats of the benches sitting very comfortably with all the lines of the staircase in the background. I would like to have seen the armrest of the bench facing right.

Lovely shot. The 'randomness' and the 'every day' feel of this shot is very nice, and the natural light is great. Nice kind of 'oasis' in no where with the sun shining there.

    Nice shot.

Very professional-looking shot. Works with multiple compositions of the subject. Exp and sharpness are excellant. I also like the minimalist feel to it. - GB

This looks good, Seb. Unusual to capture this in a vertical frame, but it does well to have that industrial like scene in the bg that you caught with the vertical frame. The lighting is making the wood tones glow nicely

OldSchool: I have no horizontal version of this scene. This was shot at the shorter end of my zoom lense (28mm) and I had an hard time making things fit as I wanted. Clearly, I need a wide angle for city work...

Nice shot Seb, I too like the way the light is shining on the benches. The compisition of the shot is good also. The shot somehow has a strang underground sort of forgotten feeling to it. Good eye!

I really like this shot. Nice work, Seb. I, on the other hand, have difficulty with shooting shadows. But you did it very nicely.

    Very, very nice.
I like the way your background is almost monochrome, and the main subject is so well lit and bright with colour.
Some people do it with PS, you did it with the subject and the exposure

Beautiful shot with very punchy colors. Crisp and well composed (even though the portrait format is a bit unorthodox) and dead-on exposure. I wonder what it would look like shot from farther away with a telephoto lens and shallow DOF .

In any case, this is very graphic and reminds me of this Toronto building you shot a while back.

Man! you are inspiring me to take back my camera and go out there...

    Cheers,

    Steph.

    Hey guys, thanks!

Eagle_Eye: I am glad that you perceived the somewhat underground nature of that spot. This is exactly how I felt when I found it.

Schrackman: There is nothing easy about shadows. This was somewhat a lucky shot.

SmartWombat: I am touched by your words but please keep in mind that I do not craft these in series (I wish I could but I can't).

Steph_B: what? you dropped your camera??? go back to work young man ;)

    Leels: thanks man!

I think I've been there - but maybe there are many benches like that in NYC. Being sort of a people and animals photographer, I keep looking for someone on one of those benches, but all in all I like it. One of the better examples of the bench motif I've seen in a while.
