Beginners photos

Hi Guys
New to digital SLR's, two weeks ago I bought a Nikon D90 and snapped a few photos, I'm really excited to get back into photography.
All critique welcome.

You're off to a great start! I really like the one of the spider web, and look forward to seeing more of your photos here.

I have one tip/comment. Try holding the shutter button down halfway (which locks autofocus), and then recomposing your photos, so that the subject is not always dead center. You can often make the scene more dynamic this way.

Thanks guys, bought a tripod today and later in the week I'm going to try a few night shots.
Many years ago I had a minolta SRT101 and a black and white enlarger and I used to spend hours and hours enveloped in this hobby.
Nowadays the cameras are unbelievable, there are so many variables to shooting, its even more engrossing. Cant wait.

Welcome to the world of photography.
Your shots are ok...not great but ok.
As was mentioned it is better to not have your subject dead center in most cases.
The spider web is good but I have a bit of a problem with the top branch leading off frame.
The mushroom is ok, too, but I'd like to see some drama in the composition.
The parrot is the best. It appears the focus is on the beak instead of the eye, though. Always focus on the eye. Use spot focus if you need to.
There is also a little white half circle on the left which is distracting to an otherwise nice background.
