Another critique please....

These are both good , I feel. I really like the second one of the old house with all its warm colors, blue skies with clouds, and all the discarded items strewn about the scene. Also love that basement window right there at ground level with its blackened inside keeps drawing me in. I feel like i want to go in there and explore this place like a kid again. I would not change a thing. I like how you have framed and composed this. It only looks a little grainy to me.
The first one, even though the quality of the image seems poor, it goes along with the scene you captured. Helps to create its mood. The main issue I have with it at this point is the line, or wire that is hanging across the upper part of the frame. This can be easily cloned out in a good image editing program like Photoshop or Jasc Paint Shop Pro.

Thank you very much! They are two of my favorites also, but what I might like alot someone else might hate so it is fun to see what happens. I especially like the hues in the second one too and I would never have thought that about the basement window, drawing you in, but it makes sense to me. Clone?????? Don't know how to do that, yet. The first of these pics are pics I scanned at 96 dpi because I wasn't sure how big I could make them. I would scan them at a higher rate but would it be a pain to everyone if I did and uploaded them again? Don't want to duplicate myself or waste space. Thanks so much for your kind words!

Some of us might be able to help you some more if you would tell us what you are using. Camera, scanner, also what editing program do you use to work with if any. you could ask for technical advice in the Help Forum about advice on resizing your photos for display on the web and other help or advice you may think you could use.

Hi,

I used my Chinon 35mm CP-7M SLR for these 2 particular photos. The only "graphic" program I used with them is the one that came with my scanner, Canon Multipass C555. I have just recently downloaded Photoimpact. Last night actually. I do not remember what lens I used on the two photos, possibly the 28mm for the back of the old house and the Zoom lens 70-250 for the photo of the other house with the wire or whatever across the top. I also have a Concord Eye-Q Duo 2000 digital camera, it was used to take the picture of my niece on another post. Does that help any? Thanks!!

ok, the grain is probably coming from your scanning process. If your really having fun with this, and it does appear you have an eye for what makes an interesting photo, you might want to invest a little in a better editing program. The one that you hacve now that came with your scanner is very, very basic and wont enable you to do very much. Adobe Photoshop Elements, or Jasc paint shop pro 8, are great, powerful editing software that can give you lots of tools to work with to fix up or enhance your photos, and they are both relatively inexpensive especially if purchased on the internet from Amazon.com or Shopping .com etc. They do take some time to learn to use, but you would have alot of fun with it and would help your images . Look forward to more from you.

I just downloaded JASC, wait to download the other until I get my new computer...Win2000 on this one and it gets bogged down. Anyway, I will play with it tomorrow. In the meantime I need to get some sleep, forgot I have appt to get car checked before trek to San Diego. (Can't wait) I plan on taking LOADS of photos while gone. I also have 5 in the mail on their way to me and three more to pick up at the photo shop. I think it will keep me busy for a while. Debating whether or not to take my cd for my digital camera so I can use my digital when I get there. Well, better go. Night. Have a great one and thanks for your help.
