    Re: Amaryllis Window

    Dear drg,

The flower is nice and the colors are good too. But I would like to see more of the flower. It seems as if the frame is a bit tight. It is a little dark too. Not overly so, but dim. It looks like the camera exposed for the outside light, and not the inside. If you wanted to get closer, I would have gone for just the head of the flower. If you lightened it up a bit, I think it might be better.

    Re: Amaryllis Window-Added view

Thanks Drew. Incredibly bright background. Here's the Amaryllis rebalanced for the flower with the outside cropped out. Haven't had much time to work with this one yet. I've got another that should open in a week to ten days.

I like the idea of the geometric pattern the window sill makes behind the flower. I think if you stood back a bit more to include all of the leaves on both sides, and applied lighting to the front of the flower, you might have something there.

    Gary,

Thank you for the input. There were several views of this available (and I know I'm not always my own best editor) so here is one last image of this Amaryllis, this one with a little more window, a different flash sequence, and the curves/levels set slightly differently.

    Dear drg,

This is much better than the first. You get a whole picture of the flower and nice lighting. Colors don't seem as intense as they should be. A few ideas though. What time of day are you shooting? What direction is the window facing? If you shot at a later (or earlier, depending on the direction of the window) time, then flare in the background might not be a problem. Looks like an eastern facing window. Try for late afternoon. The light might be better. You have a very good idea here, and I would work on this till you get it good. Great work so far.

it is a lovely shot......i wud have liked to see more emphasis given on the flower as the background is distracting ( too many elements...bright , etc)
