    Aloha

I posted these in the view finder as sort of "sharing time" when I came back from my semi-vacation in August.
I just recently posted them in the Critique Gallery, and thought I'd post them in the Critique Forum as well, since not everyone always fluctuates between the two areas.

    Mahalo!
I really like the first not-quite-BW pic. Compositionally speaking you did a great job. At the beginning, I was a bit distracted by the fact that the first surf board merges with the two palm trees. But then, I realized that this was not really a big issue, and on the contrary it might even be better this way.

Then, I though that cropping a little bit on the top might improve the overall dynamism. ... well it did not work.

The more I look at it the more I like it! Great shot!

The second pic has also quite a bit of potential. Unfortunately, the colors do not work for me. Too much cyan for my taste (I usually totally desaturates cyans and magentas in most of my pics). However, note that I haven't calibrated my monitor for a couple of days, so I might be at fault here.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Cheers!

Is the first one hand colored? It has a nice feel to it. I might think about cropping the top. I'm not sure you ned it and it might fous more attention on the boarders.

For me, that second one lacks that elusive "focal point."

Steph B... thanks for looking and commenting. Its a tricky one, as I like them, but I feel they could "be more". The second one I actually did not alter the color, I only did a slight levels adjustment as I had a lot of sun to deal with.
LL thanks too for looking and commenting. Yes, the first one is hand colored, to an extent... I did a b/w conversion from color and then went back and selectively saturated areas to my liking.
It gave me a poster feel. I dont know about cropping the top- it may help, but I prefer the fronds of the palm trees in there. I think they balance out the two palm trunks in the middle.

Personaly if the top were cropped down and the color was left in on the rash guards I would definately want it hanging on my wall.

Thanks. Take a crack at it on PSP or anyother program and see what you come up with

OK I did these even before my first reply just to see how it would look. Did it pretty quick, so not the neatest masking or croping work, I appologise

I think the crop could work. I still would like to see fronds in the top part of the shot.
I'll have to go back and look at the original colors of the rash guard... I definitely dont like them being the same color, looks a little "Sadie Hawkins" to me. But I do like the addition of color to it.
    Adds some symmetry.
Thanks for playing with the pics.

    Villenadecorte,
I like both shots. i think the surfers shot could use a crop on top and a bit on the bottom just enough to eliminate the sewer cap. and also the sky is very bright but the surfers are not against it helping to bring them out. They are mostly against the darker middle ground which is causing them to be a bit lost. The colors work nice in Mattyboys version to stand them out, or you could try a little dodging.
The palm tree shot does have a bit much cyan feel to it. I like your framing here and composition. I do feel that the man standing near the left tree is a distraction to the simplicity that should be here. I would try cloning him out. Make him go away

    Gary-
Thanks for your feedback - I think I will be revisiting the originals and reworking them over the next day or so. (you know how nutty my schedule has been!) I'll repost when I come up with something I am pleased with for more critique.
