    Across the bay

I took this tonight of the Isle casinoi across the Biloxi bay in Mississippi. The casino is about 3 1/2 miles away from where I was taking the picture. The dark section on the bottom is the water in the bay. The string of lights on the right is the bridge, Jeff

The sky is awesome, I love the blood red. I see some noise in it, what ISO were you using? Also I would like to see the building better than what you have here I think this would have been the best place to use an HDR. That sky though, my god in heaven is amazing, like I said before blood.

    very dramatic this one.

i think there's too much black at the bottom there. it might use a bit more cropping. also the colours are very strong here. how did u get the sky so red? photoshop work or filters etc?

    Re: Across the bay

Chris, as far as the settings go here they are.....
    Nikon D80
Nikon 18-200 Vr set at 200mm
    F 5.6
    1/60 sec shutter speed
    ISO 400
    Exposure Bias + 1.3

Leels, that was the actual color of the sky. Very little PS work was done and no filters were used to make this look like it does.

I was down on the beach to take pictures of the Boat Christmas parade and turned around and saw the sky and just snapped a quick shot. There wasn't anything planned about it at all, it was just a spur of the moment shot. I don't know how to do an HDR picture but if someone can fix the water for me please give it a shot, Jeff

I was going to say you over did the sky until you said that's the color it actually is.

    Re: Across the bay

I opened this raw file in Photo Shop and in the Exposure compensation I added a +1.3 then it was cropped and re sized to post here. I took a second look at both pictures side by side and the colors are the same, Jeff

    Re: Across the bay

I'll tell you what, Jeff. I wouldn't do anything to this shot. It's great. The darkenss in front ads depth and contrast to the sky, with the casino surprisingly sharp, and the lights just right. These are tough shots to get the right exposure, etc. and you nailed it. It pays to be ready and take advantage of anything that catches your eye. I would contact the casino. They just might want to buy this. Their name isn't clear, but I would suggest they use the dark area for what ever copy they might like to use with it.

Woow. That red is so intense it makes it look like the sky is bleeding. Very impactful photo, nevertheless.

    Re: Across the bay

Thanks to everyone one for your positive comments. You are making me want to try night shots a lot more. I think I will get a very large print of this and see what it looks like. On my new monitor it looks very dramatic and I am anxious to see what a print will look like. Thanks again, I can use all the encouragement I can get, Jeff
