Hi Jeff - good for you! I'm not sure what is needed, but you could get a rubber stamp with ink designed for the back of photo paper (regular ink smears) with your name, copyright symbol and the year (so you have to buy a new one every year) and contact info. Not sure if this is still how its done though.

PS - I moved this thread because I think you might get more information here.

Steve's suggestion is good. Also, if you sell through an online print/storefront site like Printroom.com you can have them write up to 40 characters on the back of every print. you could print your name, number, URL and copyright. They automatically print the file name and date on the backside of your prints.

If you order your prints from Mpix, I think they will print info on the back of the photo as well.

I used double sided tape, and attached a business card to the back of the prints that I have sold. It can get kind of $, but it was all I had at the time and it worked great. All the prints I sold were either matted or framed, so the card wasn't actually attached to the print, but to the matte board on the back of the print.

I use a dymo machine with address labels with my information on it. (dymo labelwriter 330) you can put your logo on the labels, along with anything else. Cheaper than biz cards along with more specifics if you so chose to put on the labels.

I bought some label making software and some labels that go in the printer and custom made my own stickers.

Be careful what you are sticking on the back of the actual photo, some inks can damage them over time.

Most online labs will print the copyright/your name/year right on the back. I don't stick anything else on there. Everyone initials a form, tho, saying they understand the copyright info.

For framed stuff, my framer sticks a label on there with thier name, address, phone on it. Which is fine, because I refer everyone to them, anyway. If I start offering framing, I'd do something similar.

I'm with you Adina. I don't put anything on the back of the actual print either. Only on the matte board.

Re: Starting to sell photos. I need to know what

Thanks for the replies! On just a print I was letting the printer put the copywrite, year and my name on the back. I have had a couple of people say on a FRAMED print that they put their name phone number and a brief summary of the type of photography the take. This is what I was wondering about, Jeff

Smugmug does my backprinting. It's just my name, year and copyright symbol.
