Very impressed with Nikon tech support

I just got off the phone with Eric in Nikon 24/7 tech support. I would like to commend him on his very polite, knowledgeable and helpful attitude with all my questions. I kept saying that I had "one more question" and he always said "That's what we are here for". I have only had the need to call a couple of times over the years but have had the same experience each time. I am a very happy Nikon owner, Jeff

I've never had to call but glad to hear this in case a future problem arises.

Re: Very impressed with Nikon tech support

I'm not such a happy Nikon owner myself. I bought my D40x one year and twenty days before the main circuit board blew taking with it the flash circuit board too. Tanaka, the only authorized Nikon tech ass in Sao Paulo informed me that a). its out of warranty, 20 days or 20 years same thing. and b). Nikon warranty is only valid for the country the camera was purchased in. I bought in while on holiday in the US so I never had any warranty.
I am seriously unhappy about my camera lasting for only one year and equally unimpressed with the level of service (zero) offered to me.
Maybe if I had know this when I was deciding which camera to buy I would have gone with Canon.

    Martin,
I think any manufacturer would disappoint you, because I can't think of one (for consumer DSLRs) that offers a worldwide warranty. The warranty is for the country in which it was sold.
Which is why the grey import market offering cheap cameras may not be a good thing if you buy the camera cheap with a warranty only in Asia (e.g. if it came form Hong Kong/Singapore).

I took a chance on buying my Canon G9 in the USA, and it's backfired. It's now full of dust and is unusable for video in bright light (small aperture) and also prone to showing the dust in macros. Of course it doesn't have a warranty in the UK.
