    shutter count

How do you get the count on shutter actuations?

This site http://drchung.new21.net/previewextractor/ was shared in one of the soon to close msn groups and I wondered if anyone had any experience with it and/or if there's something to be wary of with this program.

Also on the page is a program to fix a problem with nikon capture, which I don't have but wonder if those who do have had this problem.

Since its Nikon specific, I put it here instead of in software.

    Hi Frog ...

    Re: Shutter count.
I use the IEXIF of my shot to check my shutter count. Opanda is already on my 'puter.

This looks like a pretty neat program tho.

I don't use Nikon Capture so I can't comment on it.

    Thanks for sharing it.

    That is the free one

    Frog ...
I find that if I PhotoShop a pic sometimes it will not show up on the edited copy. But ... if I check the source pic, it is there. Very strange.

    Re: shutter count

Frog, on my D80 the number of the picture should indicate the number of shutter activations, example DSC_8298. Your shutter won't activate if you don't have a card in the camera. As far as I know the only time the shutter does activate and you haven't taken a picture and changed the count is when you do a custom PRE white balance. So if you don't use that function the picture count should be fairly accurate. If you use the custom PRE white balance the count will be off by the amount of times you used that function. Also if you use RAW JPEG both pictures will have the same number and will have only activated the shutter once for both files keeping the shutter and picture count the same, Jeff

    Re: shutter count

Thanks, Jeff. I always wondered what that number meant.
The last pic I took said 2536. I'd have thought I'd taken more.

my d200 starts over at 10,000 pic number. so you might be at 12536.

thats also an option that i had to turn on in my menus, you can have it start over each time (you put a card in?) or have a continuous count.

    Re: shutter count

D80 "flips over" at 10,000 actuations as well. You can look in the exif data in the Photoshop file info pull down, then go to advanced, then http://ns.adobe.com/exif.... It will give you a image number.

    My D80 is over 27000 images now. I guess I should start thinking about a D300. ;)
