    I like it.

If you're shooting RAW then you can probably bring back more detail in the bright building on the left by using the Lightroom highlights slider, without affecting the detail in the luminous dark areas in the sand on the beach. With FX you have more leeway to do this sort of adjustment.

Congrats Jeff I am sure you will take many beautiful pictures and pull out the very best of that juicy sensor.
You are going to love the dynamic range. Full frames have came a long way.

Thanks Charles and Greg! Right know I cannot get the NEF files to open in CS5 so it will just be JPEG's for a while. I wasn't to happy with the camera and lens at first but I am getting the setting adjusted within the camera and it is doing much better. Slight learning and adjustment cure to be dealt with before I will be happy.

    Hi Jeff
After talking to Adobe I was told that CS5 will not read the NEF files from the D600 . I had to upgrade to CS6

That is the price I found when I did a search on Google. My son purchased the CS5 exyended version through college foe me for $299. and that makes an upgrade just read my raw files fairly steep. Thanks for letting me know. Jeff

Yes I do have Lightroom 3 that I have purchased and installed on my computer but have never used it. That may be the way to go, thanks.

I love Lightroom. It did take me a week or so to get it going to suit me. Worth it.

Enjoy your new camera, I know we will

    Re: D600 arrived!!!!!!!!

View nx2 2.5.0 will convert the D600 nef files, you can then save them as TIF 16 bits and import them to photoshop

even when you get ACR you'll find some files will convert better with view nx2 and require less work than when opened in Adobe products

The longer I have it the happier I am with it. At first I wasn't too sure about the D600 at first but I am definitely happy with it know and would recommend it.

This was taken with my D600 with a Nikon 70-200VR F2.8 lens at ISO 6400. One of these is the original picture and the other is a crop from the same picture. This is a JPEG right out of the camera without any post processing. Click on picture to enlarge.

    Re: D600 arrived!!!!!!!!

It was basically taking the time to go through the menus and get it set up so it would give me what I wanted. I like having the mode dial with a lock on it because with my D80, D90, and D7000 I was always bumping the the mode dial and turning it to something that was different than what I wanted to shoot with. The noise is much less with the d600. The live button switch is much better and the button to start video is in a MUCH BETTER place. I have only been shooting JPEG files because Photoshop CS5 won't read the NEF files right out of the camera. You will like the quality difference in your pictures and they will require less post processing. I have cropped pictures and still have a bigger file after the crop than the original file of the D7000. The 24mbs do make a difference.

I am very surprised that nobody even made a comment about the picture I posted that was taken at ISO 6400, I thought it was great with very little if not any noise at all. One of my favorite and most used lenses on my D7000 was the Sigma 17-50 F2.8 and by going full frame it needed to be replaced which I did with the Tamron 24-70 F2.8 with stabilization.

These are just a few rambling observations and I will have one more to add. YES I would highly recommend getting the D600. Remember that you do loose the 1.5 crop factor so you will not have as much reach with the same lens as you would on the D7000 with your longer lenses.

Thanks for that Jeff. The loss of reach is what has held me back so far, but you never know :-) I'm not good enough yet to comment at the lack of noise, so hopefully someone else will.

I don't know just how much you loose in distance because you have a much better ability to enlarge images and crop to the same size of the D7000. Also bear in mind that you can use DX or FX lenses on the D600 in DX mode and it will give you the crop factor but it will lower the MBs.
