Yesterday on my way to work I came across several black vultures picking at something in the road. It didn’t look like a dead animal but they were really going after it. In fact they were so interested in what they were eating they let me get very close without showing any sign of alarm. After looking for a bit I realized that the birds were picking apart a pile of scat that was left behind during the night by what looked like it might have been a coyote (very full of hair YUK!).
I used my Rebel XT camera and EF 500mm f/4.5L USM for these shots. Since this was a quick and unexpected stop I left the tripod in the trunk and had to settle for my knee as a support to steady the camera. It was tough to get any sharp pictures as my shutter speeds were down around 1/30 second and I was being thwarted by both camera shake and subject movement. Some carefully timed shots between wind gusts and bird shuffles did afford me a few good pictures (at least they made me happy)
Thanks for looking,
Greg
