Very nice shot, tough getting the focus spot on like that through all the brush.

Very big six-pointer. I don't think the problem is with focus, because I don't see anything in front or behind the buck that is in better focus, so I believe it is noise from insufficiant light, which is the most common problem with photographing whitetail bucks. They are mostly nocturnal, and most often seen during daylight hours when the light is low. That's why for photographing them, a fast lens is important. But this is a fine specimen and a good capture with a natural setting.

Might have been a good 6 pointer once, but its an even better 8 pointer.

    Re: Whitetail

Oh, now I see a couple of tines hidden behind the front split tines. Must have thought they were tree branches or something the first time I looked. Too bad he didn't get a shot of the buck looking somewhere other than the camera. It would have showed off the rack much better. But I know how it goes. With wild animals like this, you've got to take whatever chances you get, and once they spot you like this, your chances are slim and you better shoot quickly.
(I believe those split tines are long enough to be counted?)

I would count them, and I have seen other racks like that that have been counted. Great looking deer, reminds me of my college campus. I believe there was 1 deer for every 7 students.

Actually I wasn't clear in my post, I wasn't faulting the focus, but admiring how well he did shooting through those obstructions.
