    Re: What's your day job?

OK, it’s going to be anti-climatic now

I own an engineering/manufacturing/consulting firm. We specialize in manufacturing industrial automation equipment. My customers use our equipment to make such items as US military weapons, car engine parts, alloy wheels, door handles, appliances, tools, jet engines, computer parts, and razors to name a few. Fortunately, I have highly dependable people who have worked for me for well over 10 years (some close to 20 years) so I can trust them to run many of the day-to-day duties. The cell-phone-in-the-field is my golf course.

The acting/modeling part pays for the photography part  . I try to keep all three major parts of my life separate from the other.

That's cool do you fly into Louisville. I've been there when the planes are coming in. It's incredible the numbers they move in and out of there in a night. It's an unbelievable spectacle and then to think it happens every night.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I am the sous chef of a small chicago restaurant/wine bar. We specialize in "boutique" style wines at realistic prices, and serve new american food. What is new american food? Think Bernard Loiseu meets Alice Waters. Still confused? Google Thomas Keller - he's argueably the best New American chef out there.

It's amazing what they move, and how far it has to move to get there by the next morning. I work for a contractor that flies a feeder from Wyoming to Montana where it meets the jet for it's ride to Louisville.

Hey, EOS - my oldest brother is a commercial pilot for a major carrier. They refer to themselves as "bus drivers" for flying Airbuses. Quite the stories you pilots have of your experiences
Cool Loup. I have spent the last two winters doing the UPS feeder thing, in the summer I switch hats and fly for the Alaska Smokejumpers it's interesting work.

I work for a Tech Contractor for the Gov., basically providing a technology solution that the gov would be unable to do so... low stress, decent work load and better pay- but camera obsessive.
My camera goes with me every where... to the point my wife has asked me to leave it at home (at which I know I have crossed "the line" and I better listen  )

    I'm also a stay-at-home mom, and while I love it-wouldn't trade it-adore my heathens...children...it's definitely work...hehe. Especially since they're 4 (5 in just a couple weeks!), 2.5 & 7 months...!

I am a Sgt. for the county's Sheriff Department working the Evening hours. I was in the jail until last Sept (which left me with more hours to surf the web), but being on the road is soooo much better (better days off, more excitement, etc, etc.). I have fewer people to supervise and they all want to be where they are, which makes my job much easier.

its 16MB of internal memory...Why do I need a memory card?

Its got 8MP so it should take really good pics (refering to a vivitar p&s with no optical zoom) right?

    Hey Larry,
I majored in radio broadcasting, got my degree, and nobody would hire me because I had no experience....the Catch-22 part of the story. I ended up a postal worker, so at least I stayed in the 'communications' field.

I'm retired now though. Spent part of last year as the team photog for the SWM Devil Rays. Doing some shooting for Just Minors baseball cards.

I think this same thing happened to a lot of communications guys. My brother was a broadcasting major as well and he is teaching special education now. I did do play-by-play for football and basketball for the local radio station for about 10 years during the 80's and early 90's. I guess that kind of counted using my education.

I work in SQL databases and application development using different flavors of Visual Basic. I've been in the IT field for over 10 years and have a degree in computer info systems.

But I know people in IT with bigger salaries and higher positions without a degree so it doesn't seem to matter as much.
