    Re: Warning..... PROCREATION THREAD

Hey, OT, we got a LOT of the same thing going on up here! Same species I think. Once in a while, I would see a third one trying to join in. I felt that that was going over the line for this here thread.

So here they are (is it me or does anyone else hear Barry White while viewing this thread )

Sorry everyone, I've reverted to looking introverted looking down all the time shooting my favorite subjects. Will have a hard time shooting birds again.

    LOL!

Too bad we can't insert a music file to startup with the thread. That would be hilarious!

Thanks, Paul, for making this a sticky. Thanks, Knight, for starting this thread. Great comic relief.

BTW, my 8 year old daughter was helping me find subjects last night. She asked me why I was so interested in shooting these. Couldn't answer her

Loupy, all the reptiles and amphibians in my area have aready hatched their eggs, let alone mated

The term "spring is in the air" isn't a myth unless you consider rodents(breeding machines) or double clutching bird species.

You're probably right I've been watching them since they appeared in April. Never saw any mounted, haven't seen any egg masses. The males are still calling though.

It's been a very weird year. We had a very warm winter (only one snow storm in which the snow really stuck - and that was back in December) and no snow on the ground since. However, the spring was unseasonably cool. Everything seems out of whack. As an avid fisherman, I can vouch that even the fish have laid eggs very late. They have only recently moved off their nests here. The spring walleye run from Lake Erie was late. The steelhead stayed in their winter streams longer than usual.

Anyway, some more insects still doin' it tonight

    Re: Warning..... PROCREATION THREAD

I hung up my techna AV rods and sustain reels when I became a full blown bird nerd, but still show my family how to catch those musky and bass at the lake house. I don't think walleye are in the lake, but I have landed a few 8 pounders while throwing a 9 inch plug or a 3/4- 2 ounce spinnerbait

I do believe once the water reaches 64 degrees? the toads come out in force and mate. That lasts 2-3 days, then they are gone for the most part. Frogs breed rightaround the same time as the first songbirds start to move in(late april this year) and I see tadpoles from greenfrogs, spring peepers, pickerel frogs(may be leopard frogs) and a few unknown in my local park . I know the species from watching them mate and size

Sustain reels?! Now I'm impressed - I have 3 Stradics but no Sustains

64 degress? That's good to know. I will watch for that next year. Thanks as always!

    Re: Warning..... PROCREATION THREAD

I have 2 sustains(4000) and only 1 stradic now. I lost one stradic/ st croix to a lake trout about 6 years ago.. damb was I pissed when that rod flew out of the boat like a bullet:mad2:

I only have 9 freshwater rods, 2 musky rods/ saltwater boat poles and 2 surf rods I gave my family a few over the years as they broke a rod or a reel blew up. I mostly kept my shamono and fin nor reels on techna rods and bass pro extreme poles(I have 2 custom rods too), but have a few basspro boat poles that my GF used over the years.

    Re: Warning..... PROCREATION THREAD

At last count, I had 7 G.Loomis IMX's and 13 St. Croix's. It seems only GF's and wives only know how expensive this hobby can get Looking back, I could have bought at least 3 "L" lenses with those rods - where were my priorities :mad2:

The worst part is that I got into fly fishing about 2 years ago - talk about an expensive route in the sport. That was about 1 year before I got back in heavy with photography.

These big red beetles are still hard at it. I should have pulled back some for this shot. But if you look real close, their feet are clenched

Later, this couple produced some eggs while I watched. I have sequence shots that I might post later.

Yeah, I kinda figured that, typical rodent. I'm really surprised that I haven't been seeing more and more of them though. We have up to 7 in are yard at a time eating out of the bird feeders. With that many around, and with all the breeding they do, I would have thought that we would be seeing a lot more. I have read that squirrels don't defend their territory but do they run their young off after they leave the nest?

Oh, and we have decided that this image is going to be our Christmas card this year.
