    "YOUNG redtailed hawk for sure."

Thanks Paul. Is there a particular feature characteristic of the juvenile RTH that is a dead giveaway?

They vary throughout the range, but it's in the buteo family and has that body style. All the field marks(head, wings color, chest and tail) are how I ID'd it....... I was a official hawk watch counter for 3 years and know my north american hawks quite well.

    Thanks
spotted, redstart and the last is very tough. I can't be positive, but I think it's a conneticut warbler. Never seen one though.

Re: SUMMER 2010 Bird ID Thread

I wouldn't have put this shot in here... I think it's likely too blurry and indistinct to ID... BUT-- an osprey was spotted just due south at the Skokie Lagoons (part of the same lagoon system as the Botanic Gardens where I took this) a few days after this, and the body shape and color (that can be made out here) looks osprey-like to me, and doesn't really look like a hawk or other raptor I'm used to. I'm wondering if I may have seen it without knowing it.

100% sure it's an osprey. Watch for migrating raptors! I have seen atleast 8 ospreys alone go over my work between 4:30 and 5pm this week.

These are some pretty major crops of a couple birds that I don't normally see around here. They are both Robin-sized birds. The grey bird has some similarity to a dark-eyed junco, but I think he is too big.

Re: SUMMER 2010 Bird ID Thread

    1 & 2 are the same bird

Edit-- deleted this third shot from my flickr stream since it was so awful, so I took it out so you wouldn't have to see a "not found" image.

I know the main subject here is a white crowned sparrow, but the one in the background, is that a juvie white crowned sparrow?

    Big eye ring.

Think this is the same kind of bird (or even the same bird) as in the shot above

    Palm Warbler?

eye ring, no wingbars, Conneticut Warbler?

Re: SUMMER 2010 Bird ID Thread

First 3 are mostlikely all nashville warblers... black legs.2 blue headed vireo, 2 bay breasted(I think) a gold finch

Last one is hard, but the legs are dark and the 4 oporornis have pink legs. Broken eye ring would make it a mourning if the legs are more pinkish than black.

oh. Please don't post a ton of images in one post.

Re: SUMMER 2010 Bird ID Thread

Feels like summer heat in Florida, but I suppose 80 degrees is cool autumn (fall) temperatures?
I have a few from Viera wetlands that I can't ID ... help please !

Between the 1DmkIIN and 300 f/2.8 plus 2x converter and the 45-200 on the GH-1, I have found get again that I am not getting close enough !
Or that I need an even longer lens.
If only the 4/3 Bigma has autofocussed reliably on the E-P1 or GH-1 I'd have bought it.

Still there are a few here to ID.

I think the BIF is an Osprey.

The 3 birds together, I recognise the Moorhen - but the other two I'm not sure.
Is the largest one a Limpkin?

Black bird at the water, I suspect is a RWBB but I lost track of which birds in the flock went where once they dived into the reeds, so it might be something else?

The brown bird perched on the green stem, I'm sure is a common bird. After this I spotted more around the hotel back in Orlando - eating donut crumbs.

    Thanks for your help!
