Re: SPRING 2010 Bird ID Thread

Is this a juvie male Summer Tanager?? There were two on the bee hives at the nature center (I assume snacking on bees).

They're considered accidental in this area, so I wanted to confirm the ID before I post shots anywhere.

Not quite sure on this one, Western Kingbird maybe? Sorry about the OOF second image, just included it for wing markings.

Nature center yesterday, never saw such a variety of birds there!

    A waterthrush maybe?

Excuse the lousy shot, hoping it's enough for an ID since I'm lost on this one.

Also don't know on this one... And another lousy shot.

It depends on the species. For some there's color differences, other species might have size differences, others are nearly indistinguishable between genders.

Re: SPRING 2010 Bird ID Thread

    Some from this weekend.

I thought this was a phoebe, but it seems to have faint wingbars.

This may have been the same bird as above, but I'm not a hundred percent sure.

This guy was also taken in the same area, but looks different to me. Olive sided flycatcher?

    Great crested?

I'm pretty sure on this one, but figured a conformation wouldn't hurt-- female baltimore oriole?

    You did!

1st one is a brewster's warbler!!! blue winged x golden winged bred back to a golden winged . Awesome find, but sad to see at the same time due to the decline of pure golden wings from hybridization.

    red eyed vireo

a very hard to get images of ....... wilson's warbler.

I did have to work to get the wilson's. It staid in one area for a while but it never came out into the open.
