They do look like house sparrows, but the male has a red-brown head instead of a grey head? Color variation or just non-breeding plumage?

Yes, if Europe would like their house sparrows back, tell them to feel free to set a few traps and take forty or fifty of the five zillion living in my hedge.

ran into this bird today while out in my kayak. I saw them a couple of times but every time I tried to get closer they started chasing each other around.

looks to be a western race of the house wren. Do you have other images to rule out rock wren for sure(only other wren in that area that looks somewhat similiar)

Re: SPRING 2010 Bird ID Thread

Some birds from Rocky Mountain NP

    Buffy streaked breast... Lincoln's Sparrow?

Sorry for the crappy shot. Juvie Red-backed variant of the Dark Eyed Junco?

Don't think this is good enough for an ID, but figured I'd post it and see.

Didn't get a good view or a good shot, but I think these are red breasted nuthatches?

    Broad-Tailed Hummingbird?

    Green-Tailed Towhee?
