    I do believe that's a young savannah sparrow, but don't quote me.

    sure is. They are domesticated and are quite variable. That could be a pet that got loose too.

    I looked up and saw this hawk-like bird fly by. It was an awesome sight. Too bad I didn't have time to take a shot at it. Then found it perching on a tree nearby:

    broudwinged hawk I think (but could be a young redtailed hawk )
    brown creeper
    black capped chickadee(carolina looks the same and the integrade is actually in my back yard ;) the difference is speed of the call.
    The last looks like a short billed dowitcher which is rare inland in the north west.
