BTW..... I took down a 90 foot dead tulip today with a redbellied nest at 80 feet high. We could have just notched it and let it fly , but instead we set a rope and I roped down the top safely. I cut the nest section out of the top(5 foot log section) and set a pully in the oak next to it. I housted the log up the oak on a rope threw the pully and we cabled the nest up in the oak. 3 baby redbellied's were in it and mom/ dad came back to the nest about 40 minutes later to feed them.
CAMERA BIRD NERD #1
BIRD NERD O'CANON
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both" - Benjamin Franklin
Hard to tell with 100% accuracy, But I would say they are a robin.
May well have been not sure .It wouldn't fly away though .I have a few pics of the dog looking down at the bird . Not sure if it survived it was there for a long time but was gone in the morning
The first one landed not 3' away from me while I was shooting those feeding juvie barn swallows. I had been sitting for so long with a camera to my face that this bird (northern rough winged?) must not have know that I was alive. Shot 2 frames and it took off.
The second one was feeding along side killdeer (which were slightly larger than this bird).
While at a bike race on saturday, I had a nice big bird fly right over my head, and decide that he (or she) wants to sit on the light pole that I'm leaning against. So photographing the bike race got put on hold for a second.
