Some Non-Bird, and some bird images too from this past weekend.

Captured this first one with the 300mm f/4 (no tubes). I love the versatility of that lens! You can easily do macro work, or telephoto work with it:

This was with the 180mm macro. I didn't have quite enough DOF for the desired effect. This tiny frog is about the size of a honey bee! That is a blade of very small grass with a dewdrop on it for a point of reference.

Here's that magnificently colored Spoonbill that's been hanging out at the mud hole (wish I could get him with a nicer BG):

And finally, just another Sanderling scurrying in the sand (I like the BG in this one):

Very nice - love the crab!

CB, can you do me a favor? Can you mount your 300mm f/4 with tubes on your 40D. My IS still jumps every time I trip the shutter (creating a smeared image) with this combo. If you recall, I had this problem with the first 40D body and this second body does the same thing. I thought it was the tubes (non-Canon brand) but the tubes work fine with other IS lens (500mm, 24-105, and 70-200). Then I thought it was the specific 300mm/tube combination but that combo always worked flawlessly with the 10D, 30D, and 5D.

Hate to think I can no longer use the 300/tube/40D combo - what a great macro setup

No problem Loupey, will give it a try tonight. Don't think I've ever used my tubes on the 300. FYI - I have the Canon 25mm and 12mm tubes only. Will try both. BTW - Have you updated to new 40D firmware yet? They just released another rev.
