    Rufous Hummingbird

Just a female Rufous Hummingbird I saw last weekend at Los Padres National Forest, California.

Not as sharp as I would like, and I don't really like the shadow on this bird's breast, but it was my first day with the 300mm, so hopefully I'll get better with more practice!

    Thanks for looking

    Steve

Wow you actually found one sitting still. Nicely done. Congrats on the new 300. Can't wait to see more.

Ditto... I thought they never sat still! Only time I've seen that before were the nest pictures on here. Nice shot.

    Re: Rufous Hummingbird

thanks everyone for the nice comments!

there's a lot of hummingbirds in california, so I actually get to see a lot of them perched like this.. they don't stay there long though, heh.. 4-5 seconds and they're off flying again.
