    Pileated Woodpecker in flight

    This is one of my nemesis,,,,,,Pileated Woodpecker in flight.. Today I got some half way descent shots. i lowered the shutter speed to get a little motion blur on the wings. Photos taken near sunset

    Cool! One of my favorite search subjects (but can only find one or two a year).

    My favorite is the last one despite it being not in-flight.

    Eric, nice images, not one I would think of trying to capture in flight. I also like the last one, even though it isn't in flight - would be a wall hanger if it was mine.

    Eric,
    You are FAST! These guys shoot across the sky like bottle rockets, so it's amazing you got 3 frames off. I think in all the pileated shots I have, I only have one very blurred "in flight" shot similar to #3. These are great!
