Now THAT's a TOAD

I spotted this guy tucked deep within grasses in a spot where I couldn't use a tripod - not even my Benbo which I tried.

The light was flat horrible so I had to leave that day. Came back the next day when the sun was out and directional in the evening. Just enough sunlight came through to make it somewhat interesting I think.

Anyway, the BIGGEST toad I've ever encountered - about the size of my fist and FAT! Can anyone ID this fella?

SOUNDS like a bufo just from the description, but other than Hawaii I dont know where else there are bufo's. I've never seen them as big as in Hawaii thats for sure lol. (They get as big as cats out there!)

I'd say fowlers toad.

Amber bufo is the genus of "toads". your talking about Bufo marinus the cane toad (or marine toad). that does indeed look like a fowlers toad, Bufo fowleri to me as well. The fact that there are 3 light colored bumps per dark area.

if it was that big it was probbably a female as they are larger than males.

:blush2: Oh. Well.. I never did actually look them up. I just knew that everyone always called them Bufos over there lol. And my last memory of one, was walking home in the dark after babysitting and nearly stepping on one (thinking it was a big leaf) and then the leaf MOVED.... yeah.. more than a few people came out of their houses with that scream :blush2:
