Wow, love this shot! I'd say it qualifies as abstract, it is simply in a wider context as opposed to the close ups generally seen.

Dylan8i & scott-devon - I really appreciate your feedback on this one. I'm pleasantly shocked it had an impact as I thought it was a bit too simple. You'll notice that most of my shots are really simple/basic in terms of image complexity anyway, but this one was really basic.

Death of an elder.

One of the oldest trees still standing in central Ohio I bet. Base of the tree is approximately 4' in diameter.

Died 2 years ago.

Still haven't gotten around to learning the proper way to convert B&W's "properly" to get the deep blacks and the rich grays.

I'm afraid this is the best I could do. I thought about putting a kid behind the trunk. But it is raining branches under there.

Difficult to see from this angle, but that path is a jogging/biking path.

looks like a big red oak, but could be a sugar maple.

sine we are already on the topic, i was working with beeches that where close to 100 cm DBH (diameter at breast height- 4.5 feet) in my kentucky field site. they said the record in that forest was around 70 INCH DBH i have seen some very old oaks around my area though that where larger.
