    More Popillia japonica Newman Macros

The last Japanese Beetle macros for now. You can see some of the damage they are capable of in these. These were from the same shoot as "The Enemy" post.

Enjoy ( or be glad I've been plagued with them and you haven't ).

They are colorful, but you got to hate the damage they do. Nice images.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Thanks guys, they are colorful, however . . .

I am not a fan of chemicals but we resorted to a licensed analogue variant of Cy-halo-thrin in a hexane compound base. Flammable, but evaporates fairly quickly and leaves a tiny residue that does the deed. If you hit the beetles directly (or any bug for the most part) they fly away and expire rather quickly. This stuff will kill scorpions on direct contact.

Over the counter versions are available, but it is a persistent insecticide. In concentration overs about 0.1% is only available to a licensed applicators (agricultural and exterminators).

    Sevin works also.

Good luck and condolences to any one who see these other than photos

My question is what doesn't carbaryl(trade name Sevin) kill

The problem with carbaryl is the 72 hour residual and it kills benefitial insects too. I have sprays 100,000+ gallons of Sevin and I assure you it tastes bad, burns your skin and will kill more than insects at a commercial grade. I had a licence and my brother still does IPM's.

BTW.. These are great images, but I love flowers and know how hard people work to achieve a nice flower bed, only to have pests degrade it in one day.

    They're everywhere! Well not quite.

What I find scary is how quickly the damage you've displayed occurs. Boll Weevils and the leafy crops they attack I guess are worse, but these beetles can do what you've shown in a few minutes if the concentration of them is high enough.

Loupey, I don't mind you adding to this post at all. Just adds to the overall info about these critters.
