    Moose- Roosevelt National Forest, Colorado

Hello to all my friends on PR it’s been a while since I’ve posted any photos
or even taken my dSLR for a walk in the woods. Life just keeps getting in the way.
I thought retirement was suppose to be all rocking chairs and quiet, HA!

I was finely able to get out of the house for a weekend hike.
Went to the Roosevelt National Forest west of Boulder Colorado I had a very special visit to my camping spot and thought I’d share it with you.

I hope this format of a trip report is acceptable here in N&W forum.
These pictures are in no way sell-able by any stretch of the imagination but I still though you might enjoy them since most of us here love getting out into the woods with our camera’s.

Equipment used: I purchased a Canon S95 for my backpacking trips (thanks you PJ for the recommendation) where hauling the dSLR is just not practical.
I’m still learning this camera. Most photo’s were taken in Program mode since I love the focus tracking. All photos are full frame, no cropping, 1 level of sharpening.

I'll stop talking now, here’s my report.

I’m a big fan of LNT (leave no trace) as you can see I don’t even smash the grass down with a tent. lol

While enjoying a late afternoon cup of decaf coffee I had a visitor to my camp.

    Oh, wait two visitors.

The sun was popping in and out from behind the clouds.

    Hope you enjoyed the photo's.

    thanks for looking.

Very nice Bob. I love moose and most likely know that bull's father. Ha Ha.

Really, many of Colorado's moose have been transplanted from Utah in an area I frequent a lot, so there really is a possibility, if that moose came from Utah, that I had seen his father or mother or both.

Anyway I loved your photos and your write up. Please post more often.,

    Have a good one. BB

    Hi buglinbilly,
Thanks for taking the time to comment on my post. I'm glad you liked the photos.

That is great info to know. Thank you "UTAH" for sharing your moose.
I didn't think Colorado had moose so you can imagine my surprise. It was a wonderful
    experience.

Welcome back! you have a nice series of shots here. Capturing the extremely rare six legged moose in number four is quite a special shot indeed. This is something that could make you a lot of money, Jeff

Moose with antlers I've not had the opportunity to photograph, with either video or stills. Must have been out of season in both Alaska and Grand Tetons.

    Your pictures are marvelous.

What I've got is a Moose drinking, this attached still from 20 years ago shows its age. Moose calves demanding milk and nursing make for compensatory video.

I've had this antlers and horns problem for a long time, striking out with both Dall Sheep (Alaska) and Big Horn Sheep (Canada) more recently. Bison were easy, unlike Pronghorn Antelope who hate photography.

While in Canada it was no great achievement getting pictures of Mule Deer with antlers, even though that was far more luck than I'm accustomed to. The Mule Deer were living in Banff and took no notice of people.

Re: Moose- Roosevelt National Forest, Colorado

I usually see quite a few moose each year and usually get a few photos per year. Here's a photo I took about 5 years ago of a moose. I just wanted to get a bit closer and get a few branches out of the way and he ended up charging me. I turned to run and feel and he stopped just feet away. I regained my footing, got behind a tree and got out of the area without taking another photo.

Moose actually kill more people than are killed by bears.

These are a couple photos I took before he charged.

And here's the last one I took before he charged!

Re: Moose- Roosevelt National Forest, Colorado

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back.

I know these pictures aren't the quality we all respect and enjoy around here.
I am trying my best to find away to get the D300 and a couple lenses in the backpack.
I sure wished I'd had it on this trip.

Who ever said a small high end digital camera makes a good backup to your dSLR is a much better photographer than me.

Thanks again, Oh and Billy your Moose picts are great.
I don't think I'd have the courage to approach a moose that time of year.
