Help needed for weather software!

I have an $85 Logitech messenger webcam, and I wanted to take a timelapse of the sky from my backyard. The only problem is when I set the webcam to the window, it only sees white.
I have tried messing around with the gain and it helps a little to turn the auto-flicker off, but if anyone knows where to find better software for seeing the sky with a logitech webcam, I'm open for ideas. If there are no software ideas, I'll probably buy a better computer camera, so I'll listen to suggestions for that too.
