AE - yeah the females are fairly nondescript except for the stripe across their forehead and the faint epaulets.

Look for a perched male. He will most likely be near the nest. Walk up to where you would like to photograph him as he will typically return if you stay put. The female will scurry about hiding behind branches/reeds, but if you get her out in the open, she will likely have a bill full of insects.
