    Dragonfly Series I - grounded

Couple from yesterday. Tried to get more unconventional angles. I am missing a directly head-on shot.

Don't know the two species here. Can anyone provide the common names (sorry, Latin goes in one ear and out the other).

The "green ones" are much easier to shoot in the air but the "black ones" seem a little easier to approach on the ground. These were taken in the middle of the day so I could not find too many on the ground.

All shot with the 2xTC on the 70-200 f/2.8L IS

ive actually found I don't like the head on shots, because you don't get a good view of the elegance of the dragonfly. I like the shot from directly above, because you can see the full body, and it provides good composition usually. these are nice nontheless though.

Knight, remember "tubes" as well. Although I used the 2x here, I also use extension tubes just as often. All my "wildlife", "nature", and "macro" work have been with the 70-200 with either the converter or tubes. Although I have not tried to combine them, yet

Bev, thanks! Like I stated when you first joined, its nice to know that you too utilize the 70-200 f/2.8L IS for things other than sports It is indeed my Swiss army knife.

Brent, yeah I got one of those as well. It reminds me of a scientific text book shot. Here it is

The are some pretty cool looking dragonflies. I always look for the odd looking ones while out birding.
