    Blue heron in flight

    Quite a wingspan. I wonder if it has lost a fight or something...

    Actually, polarbear, your's looks like a black-crowned night-heron.

    It's been my belief for a long time that this bird employs a most effective public relations firm. The pictures are marvelous, but there's no clear evidence it's even close to being blue. False advertising, and that confuses proper identification as well. I'm hardly an expert, but I've seen/photographed these herons on the ground, and they always tend to look far more gray than blue. Great gray heron.
