I am having trouble here. I want to say it's an african bird(glossy starling) , but I am not sure where it is from. It isn't a starling though.

Where were you in animal kingdom, that may help to find the continent of origin. mind you there are well over 10,000 bird species/ subspecies in the world ;)

You stole my fun. I was all set to find that ID if you gave me a continent too ;)

How did you get the ID then?

LL, watch those wood storks at close distances. Not that they are aggressive towards humans, but they have a serious bill on them(as do herons and egrets).

Yes redshouldered hawk, barred owl and a very tricky ID... first winter snowy egret(which looks very close to a young little blue heron)

BTW.....My GF will be looking for a burrowing owl this weekend for you to see on cape coral. I will get exact addresses for you by mid week ;)

Well , your first 3 are correct and possibly the 4th.

That great blue heron, to me, looks a bit odd looking. I think it may be a cross back between a WURDEMANN'S and a GBH A Wurdemann's is a hybrid between the great blue heron and the great white heron(white morph great blue heron)

Your last is a GREAT WHITE HERON not a GREAT(white)EGRET. notice the legs and heavy bill ...amoung other ID marks

    WHERE WERE THESE TAKEN?

Thanks for the ID help Paul. I'd be really lost without your helpful guidance.

These were taken at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.

    Isn't that up near tampa?

BTW, I just talked to my GF and she said the neghbor flushed the pair of owls from her yard, but she will find YOU a burrowing owl on a walk of the neighborhood this weekend. I asked her to get me ADDRESSES and landmarks so I can PM them to you.

She isn't a birder like me, so we can't expect the world from her ;)

Yes, Homosassa Springs is about 75 miles north of Tampa.

    Went for a drive today

Here are a few pics I took today while out driving around. The red wing black birds are back in force. This kestral let me get pretty close for this shot. This RT hawk sat still just long enuf for a couple pics. The blue jay kept yelling at me. All shots were taken from my mobile blind, aka my truck. All pics are cropped.

Re: Went for a drive today

    Nice images.

I finally got a saturday off (today) and headed WAY up north to a bog that hosts winter finches alot(crossbills, purple finches...) Just my luck.. 40MPH winds which keep the birds low and quiet. All I seen was 3 chickadees and a quick distant grey fox.

But on the way there I had a redtailed hawk 30 feet infront of us and was digging my camera out when it landed 5 feet infront of the truck on a wire! Did it stay...... yes until I stuck the camera in the direction of him NOT ONE SHOT all day worth keeping.

A female has joined those two male ringnecks. I'm hoping to get some better shots this weekend.

Here is a very bad shot I took today of an Eastern Meadowlark.

Ok, I realize it may not require an ID, but I am dang proud of myself. It has taken me almost a year to get a good pick of one of these guys.

    Owl

I haven't shot much lately. Took a walk this morning in a suburban park and my daughter spotted this owl 10 feet away from us on the edge of the concrete path. I only had a 20-35mm lens, but I was happy to take his/her picture.

    What species is it?
