    Bif Rth

Took these this afternoon while out practicing my small birds in flight.

    Hope you enjoy them.
300mm f4 prime + 1.4x teleconverter, I do pay a focus penalty when using the tele-convert. Wish I was rich instead of so good looking, LOL
    EXIF data is still attached.

Looks like you're really getting the hang of shooting BIF, I need to get some pointers from you. Nice captures across the board, but I really like the last one the best.

I was chasing Mtn Blue birds and Meadowlarks across this field when I came up to a line of big cottonwood trees. This RTH came out of the trees squawking and circled me. I must have entered her nesting area. I only stayed ~1 minute to get these shots and I moved out.

Being new to birding I am very concerned my presents is a bad thing and I sure don't want to be responsible for an abandoned nest.

Super series and being good looking isn't all bad. I'm cursed with the same problem.

    Beautiful photos !!!

    you used autofocus ?

The fist photo looks sharp enough for me, at least in the size we see here
is it an agressive crop ?
if not then you can bring more detail on the shaded part of the bird without to much noise,
the -1EV and iso 800 may produce some noise if you work on the the shade to make it brighter but nothing to bad.

    Thanks Paul and Mike.

    Hi Armando,
I did use auto focus. Shot 1 is a 50% crop.
I did try to clean it up in PP but I'm just not that good with shadow recovery and soft focus. Same with the last shot.

what are you using for PP ?
if you are not using Capture nx2 maybe you should try it

Can be fixed in a few clicks
    - select the shaded area
    - adjustment light - dlightning - best
    - move slider of improvement % so it looks good, not overdone

    Hi Armando,
I use nikons ViewNX software for Exposure, WB, & RAW conversion and PS7 for all other PP.

ViewNX does have Shadow protect, highlight protect, and D-lightHD adjustments.
I believe shadow protect increases the brightness in the shadow areas however the tradeoff was noise.

I am waiting for Capture nx2 to go on sale. The best price I can find now is $124
