    Baby Robins

I had seen this nest during my previous visit to Magee Marsh so I sought it out during this past visit. Surprisingly well camouflaged at a fork in a trunk about 15"~18" feet away from the boardwalk. Even at eye-level, most people walked right passed it without even knowing it was there.

Anyway, another photographer had beaten me to the spot. But because he was in a wheelchair, I was able to shoot over his head (there was only one line-of-sight that wasn't obstructed). He was shooting with a 300mm f/4L and 500mm f/4L while I had my 500mm virtually on top of his head.

I was extremely fortunate that the sun poked through the heavy cloud cover (and that it was able to make it through the trees) at just the right time. The sun came out only a few times that entire day.

    These are in chronological order.

That is one cool series. Those babies are going to fatten up in no time.

Very nice Loupey. I have never caught Mom and Dad at the nest at the same time. I generally see them kind of coming in shifts. One comes in and than the other with the fresh supply of worms.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Mike, OT - thanks for looking and commenting!

What goes in must come out. If anyone has ever wondered how the dirty diapers are disposed of, here it is I would imagine the sound to go something like, *pop*, slurp, yum!

Very good series Loupey! I noticed a few nests in an open car port I have. Would never be able to get a shot of them, too dark and no angle. Nice to see you were fortunate enough.

Great series. I have a robin nest in the pine in my back yard but I cannot see it good enough to get any images.

Nice to be around again too! Hopefully I can get out shooting again soon. The last two times I tried to go further than my own backyard, things didn't go in my favor (Weather or forgot my card for the camera! :mad2: )

Pregnancy is going ok. Very different this time (for the better). August is going to come fast!

Remember my prediction a few months ago? I'm still betting for an 8-8-8 birthdate

    Take care!

    Re: Baby Robins

oh man, i just noticed a nest at my rents house this week... its about 2 feet from their screened in porch, which i can't shoot through. makes me wish i could set up my tripod aimed at the rhododendron the nest is in ( about 4 feet off ground) and sit in porch with a remote trigger ( i don;t have one) to get pics. i saw one parent sitting on nest and one land with a worm yesterday.

    Re: Baby Robins

Alison & Chris - thank you so much for the kind words.

    Lori - whoops! Sorry

Dylan - can you strap your camera next to it with a wide angle or ultra wide angle lens? I have been looking to do that - would be cool to get a wide angle version of these. You would need a remote cable release though.

Nice set of images Loupey. Wish I had a 500mm lens. Would come in really handy sometimes.

    Re: Baby Robins

yeah i could use a tripod and get it close enough, or strap it to the rhododendron... but i don't have a remote, or a cable release. and i won't be at my rents house until next weekend, the birds were still really tiny so they may still be there.

    Re: Baby Robins

Well a 500mm has been on my list for over 20 years - I figured I was grown up now

Funny because when I took my wife up to Magee Marsh, she told me I was too young to have it. Seems everyone up there with 500mm and 600mm's were in their 50+'s

Then again, just about everyone else was too.
