    Nice image. Is this the same bird? I was told it was a purple finch.

    I'll let our in-house expert confirm this but it does look like they are the same bird, a male house finch if I'm correct. But I think Paul said the male house finch on the west coast doesn't have a head that red (as in my photo)...?

    Both are house finches.

    while the yellow varient pops up around the country, they live out west for the most part. The yellow varient interbreeds with the typical red ones and dulls the red in it's offspring when it does.
